How to Identify and Remodel to Your Own Style

“Style” is always a loaded word.  There is really only one “style” you should be concerned with – yours.  The only way you can figure out what you like is to expose yourself to as many options as possible.  Essentially, there are thousands of places to expose yourself to different stylistic options and see how you react – both viscerally and functionally.  Images from magazines, websites, television programs, and movies are all second hand ways for you to discover what positive or negative reactions you have to existing homes.

The best way to find your style is to find homes that you can actually see, visit, walk through, and touch.  The most important factor to consider when renovating is how you feel about the outside of your home.  So when you deal with “style” you have to look at how you feel about the style you have now and the style you’d like to end up with, as well as what you like and dislike about it.  However, realize that in the end, you are writing the rules.  You, in fact, are the judge and jury of all that will happen.  Take charge.  You can have the home you want!
